CHAKA

The tag that took over LA before social media was even a thing. Daniel “Chaka” Ramos became a street legend in the late ’80s and early ’90s, bombing his name everywhere from bridges to bus stops to freeway signs. Born in Boyle Heights and inspired by a Land of the Lost character, Chaka turned rebellion into recognition — with over 10,000 tags (he swears it was more like 40,000).

Yeah, he got busted a few times — even hit a courthouse elevator door just to prove a point — but that only made his name louder. These days, Chaka’s traded city walls for gallery walls, blending street chaos with fine art cool in shows like Resurrection. Same hustle. New canvas. Still 100% Chaka.
